Michal Alon, clay artist
I graduated the Industrial and Environmental Design department at “Bezalel” Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem in 1975. I started to work in clay in 1976, under the guidance of my teacher and mentor ever since then, my mother, Hanna Charag-Zuntz.
Archeological influences combined with traditional shapes and forms are incorporated into functional and non-functional body of my work, which is mainly wheel thrown.
My surroundings inspires my work. Local landscape and rugged rock formations, marked by rain, sun and wind become images and designs for pots and surfaces.
Surface treatment is dictated by the shape and character of the piece. I am in constant search of new glazes and textures, since glaze is not a mere decoration, but an integral part of the overall design.
Over the years I’ve had solo exhibitions and took part in numerous exhibitions in Israel, Europe and the U.S. MY work is in private collections in Israel, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Germany, Australia, and U.S.A. in the “Eretz-Israel” museum in Tel-Aviv, Beit Aharon Kahana Museum in Ramat-Gan, Israel, Racine Art Museum, Wisconsin, U.S.A and the Jewish Museum in Berlin, Germany.
